A Guide to Finding Insurance Leads on the Internet

With do-not-call lists and the increase of online insurance companies it is becoming more difficult for insurance agents to find qualified insurance leads. This is our guide for agents looking for insurance leads on the internet. Consider these different opportunities:

Purchase Leads Online

Popular websites such as InsureMe will sell you leads for auto insurance, health insurance, life insurance, home insurance and more.  Insurance buyers often seek insurance offers online because it easier for them to fill out a quick form online rather than calling several local agents.

To get started, simply signup online and you'll soon start receiving qualified leads.

Pros: Get lots of qualified leads, targeted buyers, specify aspects of lead (non-smoker, good driving record), easy to setup.

Cons: Still requires a sales call or email, leads are sometimes shared.

Online Advertising

Search engines like Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing will sell you "cost-per-click" ads.

These ads appear alongside search results when a user searches for certain keywords. You only pay when a user clicks the ad.  For example, if you are an insurance agent in Seattle you could bid on the phrase "Seattle Auto Insurance" to reach people in the Seattle area looking for auto insurance.

Pros: Access local users looking online for insurance, easy to setup.

Cons: Requires monitoring to prevent cost overruns, can be expensive, requires website.

Create a Webpage

With your own insurance website you have the possibility to receive free traffic from search engines. The key is to get other websites to link to you in order to become "search engine optimized."

Provide a way to request a quote via your web page.  Many younger people find it easier to fill out a form on the internet than calling for a quote, which can be intimidating.

Pros: Possible free traffic.

Cons: Can be difficult for the less technically inclined, could take months to see benefits.

Write a Blog

Much easier than creating a website, a blog offers an easy, often free way to display information about your business.  Popular sites include Blogger.com and Wordpress.com.

Pros: Easy to setup, inexpensive or free.

Cons: Might provide limited return, takes a long time to receive free traffic.

Social Networking Sites

A great way to get noticed online is to create profiles on social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, and LinkedIn.

Signing up with social networking sites is a great way to connect with old friends and acquaintances who can be your best customers, and who will spread positive word-of-mouth about your business.

Pros: Easy to setup, free, non-obtrusive way to remind friends about your business.

Cons: Most users are under 35, so you'll only reach some of the market.
